Pin striping can be seen commonly exhibited on custom cars, motorcycles, bicycles and any surface one can get their brush on. In autobody work, pin stripes are a thin vinyl tape or paint also known as stencils. They can also be used for referencing your own work as you follow along. The tape versions are adhered directly to the painted surface in the pattern desired, while painted ones are done by stripers 'freehand' with 'sword' shaped brushes. Pinstriping is to enhance the curves and lines of a surface, generally of a complementary color. In any other form of decorative pin stripes, the goal is the same. Pinstriping can be made of paint, vinyl or digitally printed.
